What's in a Name?
Supplying goods to remote areas has always been a challenge, especially in the days when covered wagons, a.k.a. stagecoaches, were the primary means of wheeled travel in the mountains. Since the nearest railroad only reached Wolcott some 75 miles south, heavily loaded “freighters” would bring goods into Steamboat Springs to supply the town with materials needed to grow. It was thanks to these freight wagons that Steamboat Springs saw it’s first era of significant growth.
